Scott Thwaites Takes 7th Place on Stage 8 and Bartosz Huzarski on Stage 9
Last Saturday, after a long day in the breakaway, Scott Thwaites showed climber qualities and finished 7th in La Camperona Vuelta a España, a mountain stage. The day after Bartosz Huzarski did the same.
Ten kilometres after the start a group of 11 riders, including Scott, made today´s breakaway. On the final climb Scott showed a good performance and finished 7th.
“I am not a real climber like you need to be for a stage like this,” said Scott Thwaites. “Our plan was to get into the break with Bartosz or Silvio, but when I was up there and it seemed to be the right group, we decided to give it a go. Steffen, our DS, told me to try something before the final climb, but I was not sure and if you go too long in the red zone already in the flat you really can blow in the steep parts. I decided to go my own pace then and I think that worked out pretty good. I am happy to have a top ten result in such a hard stage like today.”
Bartosz Huzarski Finishes in 7th Place After Whole Day in the Break
Bartosz Huzarski had a strong ride on Stage 9. He was in the break of the day and the Stage win was open until the final climb. Bartosz then managed to overtake some riders on the final kilometre and finished in 7th place.
“I tried to go on my own pace as long as possible,” said Bartosz Huzarski. “The last 30km I was really on the limit and I am not an explosive guy. In the end I could overtake some riders on the last km and finished 7th, I am happy with that. My legs become better day-by-day, not as good as in the Tour, but getting better and better. I will also try something in the next stages, because I think there is also a good chance that a break can fight for the win.”
