Argon 18 latest Custom Paint Gallium Pro 2018
Launching around the electric atmosphere of the Tour de Suisse, the one-of-a-kind custom painted TriColor Gallium Pro for Jakob Fuglsang from Argon 18.
Inspiration behind the design
Returning to the roads of Tour de Suisse after numerous years, Jakob Fuglsang puts his season focus into view with big goals and race. As the bike partner of Astana Pro Team and supporter of Jakob Fuglsang, Argon 18 wanted to graphically express his roots and character.
The concept graphically represents the multi-talented aspects of Fuglsang’s cycling past, present and future by giving the impression of three different bikes. This design was created to appear different from various views — front, the left-side and the right-side. Each angle showcases a dynamic of Fuglsang’s racing, interwoven together to a complementary overall design.
From the front, the bike appears a complete static red, making it easy to spot the powerful Dane in the peloton. In terms of details, a special super hero Ironman Fuglsang emblem decorates the top tube. Outside of the superhero genre, the emblems embodies more than explosions and effects, it represents his resilient attitude and his will to push the limits.
Art director Alexandre Saint-Jalm worked alongside the Astana Pro Team management to elaborate the unique design of Fuglsang’s ParticuleR Gallium Pro. “This project reflects our concept behind our ParticuleR program, we break away from the norms with challenging production processes. This design with several gradients was particularly labor intensive, with production steps multiplied by three. We were able to accomplish this custom paint scheme with the active participation of Colourburn Studio,” said Saint-Jalm.
“We are happy to surprise Fuglsang with his custom TriColor Gallium Pro - ParticuleR ” said Gervais Rioux, CEO and Founder of Argon 18. “With the Tour de France set by Fuglsang as his target for the season, we wanted to give him some extra motivation in his final build up.”
ParticuleR is a new internal initiative program from Argon 18, a creative hub for experimentation. Through the ParticuleR Program Argon 18 designers will go to the extreme of their cycling passion to develop new ideas, designs and possibilities. It is a playground to push the brand’s creative limits and influence future designs. It is only through experimentation that one learns and grows. All the projects from this lab will be unique.
“While we are a bike manufacturer, we are first and foremost cyclists and cycling fans, understanding that special relationship between a rider and his bike. It is with extreme attention to detail that we develop these special bikes, experimenting ideas and concepts in hopes to inspire the rider to reach his goals. It is only by working with the best athletes that we can produce the best bikes in the world from design, geometry, aerodynamics, and even to cosmetics.” said Gervais Rioux.
“What we have accomplished on Fuglsang’s bike is truly a unique one-time production and not replicable. The technical complexity of the design for this frame demanded unique and special skills. We were able to achieve this task through collaboration with Colourburn Studio. We believe the uniqueness of the rider allowed us to approach this project differently,” Saint-Jalm commented.
This TriColor custom painted bike Fuglsang is now riding is the same consumer model Gallium Pro sold by Argon 18 retailers worldwide. The Gallium Pro, launched at the 2017 Tour de France, is available in 3 different colors.
