The “Island of Stability” is an expression taken from nuclear physics. It refers to the possibility of discovering previously unknown elements that have “magic’’ numbers of protons and neutrons. The first of these elements is Element 114 which has been produced artificially only once. In theory, after a moment, Element 114 transforms itself naturally and becomes Element 112 which, as it turns out,is closely related to Mercury, Element 80 on the Periodic Table.
